The book of Ruth provides a pleasant contrast to the mayhem and sin in the book of Judges.
Ruth, a widow from Moab, leaves her gods to follow the ONE God, the God of Israel.
She also leaves her own country and people to accompany Naomi, her mother-in-law, to keep her company and console her for the death of Naomi's two sons.
This book is about a single individual, not only turning from idol worship, but also offering compassion and human kindness to her mother-in-law, and being blessed by God in turn.
God blesses us, so that we can in turn bless others (with kindness and compassion)... And when we bless others with our kindness and compassion, God will often bless us in turn.
Ruth was the great-grandmother of King David.
