The book Hosea gives us a practical working example of how God felt when His people did not obey Him and followed other gods. Hosea marries, and loves, a woman who is unfaithful to him. He tries to persuade her to come home and live with him but her adultery torments him. God, required the faithful allegiance of the chosen people and they continually chose other gods; in a sense, committing an 'adultery' to their covenant with God.
